Artist Statement
Working from sketches and photographs my work is not truly representational, but more an impression of the places; influenced by emotion and atmosphere. The hope is that the viewer will find an empathy with these interpretations.
I believe that progress is the exploration of new directions. For instance, creating a variety of different textures on the picture surface can give a tactile quality which can be energising or ambiguous. Another approach is a continuity of theme when several paintings are worked on simultaneously so that they complement each other.
The composition of my latest paintings seek an initial impact and then draws the viewer into a personal pictorial journey.
